Last week, Pula’s Park Plaza Histria hotel hosted the 15th annual “Civil Protection and Crisis Management” (SIGG) conference, organized by the professional journal Zaštita, under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia and with the support of the City of Pula, Istria County, and the Croatian Counties/Cities Disaster Risk Reduction Platform.

The company Markoja once again took part in the conference and presented some of its innovative solutions in the field of urban security and critical communication, such as:

  • PoC devices
  • LoRaWAN modem
  • Bubbler water level measurement system
  • inclinometer, deformometer, piezometer.

The head of the Civil Protection Directorate of the Republic of Croatia, Damir Trut, pointed out:

The field of crisis management has proven to be extremely important nowadays when we are faced with evident climate changes. The consequence of this is the increasingly intense and frequent occurrence of disasters in the world.

This year, the two-day conference welcomed more than 140 participants, with record attendance.

SIGG focused on topics like disaster risk reduction, critical communication, and crisis management during natural disasters such as fires, floods and earthquakes.

A panel discussion titled “New technologies for crisis management” was held, including participation by Markoja’s own Robert Perenić, along with Josip Granić (HGSS/CMRS), Denis Stipanov (Head of the Protection and Rescue Service of the Istria County Fire Brigade), Ivan Kubiček (Vukovar-Srijem County Civil Protection) and Toni Tenjero (OIV). The main topic of the panel was the importance of new technologies and their application in civil protection and security and crisis management.

The journal Zaštita (“Protection”) has held this conference for 15 years, emphasizing the importance of crisis management and urban security while educating people, cities and municipalities about the new available solutions in that area.
